History
Den Elder was founded in 1981 as a VZW by 3 girlfriends: Rita, Hilde & Leen. The goal was to become a distributioncenter for biologic herbs and grains.
A shoppingspace annex coffeebar was used as the begining for organising all kinds of activities about the use of the offered products, child animation, lectures, music nights,... . One of those activities was the trading of studiebooks for graduated youngsters. The left-overs eventually were used for our first steps in the "Book store". When a book and market vendor sold us a big lot of books and comics we couldn't stop anymore. The books demanded there space. The coffeebar still was a comfortable meetingpoint the next couple of years until the books needed that space too.
When 2 out of 3 partners left the business Rita decided to continue the business, helped by her husband Johan who quickly introduced his musical preference by buying and selling LP's and CD's.
In 1993 the shop moved to the present location, Langestraat 84, where our offer has been expanded with video's and DVD's and dinky toys.
